Why I Watch the LOTR Commentary

Yes, I am one of those people who, after watching the movie a gazillion times, goes back to watch it again with the commentary. Sometimes the commentary can be boring. Other times, it's hilarious.

The Extended Edition LOTR DVD's belong in the latter category. The cast members are seriously funny. Special mention goes to Billy Boyd (Pippin) and Dominic Monaghan (Merry), who basically snark through the entire 9 hours of the three movies. I mean, honestly, they come up with the randomest things to say.

That is not to down other members of the cast, who add their two cents from time to time. Gollum and Smeagol (both voiced by Andy Serkis, naturaly) show up during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and completely ruin a dramatic moment by breaking the fourth wall and talking about how Andy also did the voice for the Witch-king. Priceless! And then, if you stick around for the ROTK credits, Karl Urban, who plays Eomer (and also Bones in the new Star Trek reboots, for the Trekkies out there), says, "Where's the bathroom? Isn't that what people always say at the end of these movies?"

It's worth it.

So here is a collection of things to prove my point. With pictures, because pictures make everything better.

Aww....

And we would all like to say, "Thank you all so very much!"

In Pace Christi,

Elyse
