Not sure what's with the hieroglyphs, but Bilbo looks pretty amazingly heroic here.
Now you know why I cheer whenever I'm watching the credits (honestly, I do it to listen to the music! Doesn't everyone? ...Everyone? Where are you going?) and the names of John Howe and Alan Lee come up as 'concept artists'.
