All That Is Gold - Hobbit Edition

The one poem that no Tolkien fan will ever be tired of reciting, applied to The Hobbit and in particular to our majesty would-be King under the Mountain.

All that is gold is not good, either. Saw DOS again yesterday... It hurt when I noticed that Thorin looks at the gold just before Bilbo comes skidding into view.

TABA is going to hurt so much.

Always Reblog the Fabulous Thranduil

So someone on Tumblr saw that gif of Thranduil being fabulous. You know the one. Yes, you do - don't bother to deny it.

And this happened:

In which Thranduil is actually Emperor Kuzco. Bonus points for Fili's wide-eyed look of horror, Kili's look of, "Seriously? This is what Elves are like?" (he also appears to be covering Bilbo's eyes for him!! Aw, that's so thoughtful of you, Kili!), and then... just... Thorin's facepalm.

That facepalm. It just screams years of Thorin having to endure Thranduil's fabulousness with every diplomatic visit. It says, "Here we go again." I can't get enough of it.

And can we talk about how Legolas just gets Thranduil's cloak thrown on him and doesn't move? It's like he's used to it by now. The poor guy. No wonder Legolas getting embarrassed by his dad has become memetic in the Tolkien fandom.

I love this fandom so much, y'all.

Help, I Can't Stop Laughing

I just... I don't even have any words to describe this.

What is this new devilry?

*goes off to laugh hysterically*

Oh, by the way, the source appears to be theunicornslap.tumblr.com. Not sure if they did it or not, but whatever.

Royalty of Middle-Earth

The gif set I found contained only those gifs. Now, while it contains very beautiful gifs, I have a few issues with it. Firstly, why did they pick *that* gif of Thorin? I would have picked something more like this:

Also, they left out Eomer.

THEY LEFT OUT EOMER.

*wails and flails with incoherent rage*

All right, I get it that he was not born a prince. He's only the son of Théoden's favorite younger sister and her husband. Theodred is the prince of Rohan. HOWEVER, when Theodred is killed at the Fords of Isen and Théoden falls in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Eomer becomes the King of Rohan. So he definitely qualifies as a king here, people!

Eomer has noticed your insult to his awesomeness. He is not pleased.

Eomer is judging you for your discrimination. I am judging you for your discrimination. To atone for your discrimination, I shall post all of my Eomer gifs. I shall also post my Eowyn gifs, as she becomes the sister of a king and marries Faramir, who becomes the Prince of Ithilien once Aragorn takes the throne of Gondor (and Arnor, which is completely glossed over in the movie, by the way). So she also definitely counts.

Rohan for the win!

One of these days, I am going to have to follow through on my threat and count the number of times Théoden shares a scene with Eomer, talks to him, or even mentions him, compared to the number of times he is seen with Eowyn, talks to her, or mentions her, in both TTT and ROTK. I'm sure it will be illuminating. Grr. My theory is that Théoden developed Eomer-amnesia in the movies.

I mean, I'm all for meaningful uncle-niece interaction. He practically raised her, after all. But I just want to shake Théoden and go, "YOU HAVE A NEPHEW, TOO, YOU KNOW!" I mean, Eomer did his best to save Theodred and brought him back to Edoras (at least in the movie) and you never even thanked him for the chance to say goodbye to your son! You never thanked him for saving your sorry hide at the Hornburg! You never even apologized for (unknowingly) banishing him!

You could at least say you're sorry, dude.

*storms off in a huff*

Hobbit Group Shots!

First up, the Durins smiling (yep, all three of 'em!):

And now for some others:

Okay, oops, more Durins.

Can we take a moment to appreciate just how much Fili looks like Thorin here?

And everyone is happy. :)

Thanks for posting it, Luke Evans (Bard). I just love how messy Martin and Benedict both look.

I've run out of group shots, but here's an awesome gif of Thranduil cutting down orcs:

He uses double swords like his son uses double daggers. I seriously love whoever came up with that idea.

And, as a parting note, here is a gif of Thorin laughing:

I can't even bring myself to commentate on this one.

*flees*

A Few More Posters

Because I'll blog 'em as long as the advertising team keeps 'em coming. These have been out for a while, so I just picked my favorites out of this set. (Yes, this was the set with the horribly photoshopped Bilbo, so I'm not discriminating against our favorite hobbit here. Just against the photoshopping.)

It's pretty much the same as the French poster, but with a different background. After all, there's only so many different poses of Gandalf with a sword that you can do.

Has anyone done a meme of, "The majesty is over 9000"? If not, someone needs to do it. Because reasons. Reasons of majesty.

And now, for a bonus, two more promotional images, one of majesty and the other of fabulousness (ahahaha):

We actually get to see more of Thranduil's clothes here. I like this pose much better over the one that seems to dominate marketing. Here he looks more real, more dangerous, more Elven... more Thranduil, I guess, than the old image that's being used everywhere. Also, since I can't take the fabulous part of him seriously (*snerks*), my reaction to this image was more along the lines of, "Wow, cool!" than hysterical laughter.

I do try to collapse into hysterical laughter more often than not. It helps keep the shameless fangirling away. I am still, after all, on my crusade to be a sane fangirl, even if DoS is doing its level best to beat sanity and patience both out of me.

ONE MONTH, PEOPLE. ONE MONTH.

Thranduil Being Fabulous... Again

A new image of King Thranduil was released! ...And I can't stop laughing. Behold:

One of these days I shall post something not related to The Desolation of Smaug... but it is not this day!

Elves Are Stupidly Fabulous

If you haven't seen this yet, you need to.

Ahahahaha. Thorin is so unimpressed. Thranduil is being all fabulous and Elrond is being... I don't know... Dracula or something with his cape? Ahahahaha. Gotta love this cast, every one of 'em.

Uhh. The gifs got messed up again. Grr. Ah, well, it can't be fixed now.

Some Stuff I've Found

Tumblr: "You know what would be hilarious? If we tell Dean we're doing the informal fun shots, but tell Aidan that we're doing the dramatic, serious ones. That would be just hilarious."

And right about ... now ... this post is going to devolve into RA Appreciation. Because it is always worth it.

[Bilbo's] the beating heart of the story that you want to protect and you want to make sure survives. Thorin is the soul, really. He’s the experience, he’s the spirit of the dwarves and their kingdom and this whole bowl that holds the heart in their hands. And that’s how I see it. And they sit in harmony with each other, I think, and are changed by each other. - Richard Armitage

| I hereby challenge the entire Internet to find someone with more Thorin Oakenshield feelings than Richard Armitage.

On "Misty Mountains":

It was a cradle song that Thorin may have sung to his young nephews to say, look, we must never forget what happened. - Richard Armitage

“The last day on set was actually a pickup we were doing to complete the end of the first film, so all of the dwarfs were gathered, and we were looking — I don’t know if I can say actually, because it might spoil the ending of the first film, but we were all together, and with such hope. And then it was brilliant, because on the last take, we had a little whisper around the company that we were all going to crash in and give Martin a big group hug. So on the very last take, we all kind of ran and put our arms around Martin, and then Pete ran up onto the set and put his arms around Martin. It was a great moment, and it was moving.”

- Richard Armitage talks about the last day on set

Me: D'awwwwwww...

… Tolkien’s own misadventures with his first automobile, purchased in 1932, were the source of some of Mr. Bliss’s escapades. Tolkien was known to accelerate across busy intersections crying out ‘Charge ‘em and they scatter!’ and once knocked down a stone wall during a family vacation.

| I give you John 'Road Rage' Tolkien

| Reaction to angry Gandalf

| | I just love how Bilbo's all, "Woah," and Thorin's, "Huh, look at that. That's different."

I had never noticed this before, but now that I have I will crack up inappropriately every time I see this while watching AUJ. Lol.

Within the first ten minutes of the trailer’s release, GIFS WERE MADE AVAILABLE ON TUMBLR

Within an hour of the trailer’s release, GIFS OF ART BASED ON THE TRAILER WERE POSTED TO TUMBLR

Within six hours of the trailer’s release, ORLANDO BLOOM, EVANGELINE LILY, AND LEE PACE, AKA THE ELVES OF MIRKWOOD, post a video of themselves reacting to a fanmade reaction video created in response to the trailer

this is the fandom to which I belong

Really cool collages, these. Would the technical word be collages? Dunno. Saruman/Sir Christopher Lee with the Ring there is a nice touch. The pic of RA is quite nice.

"Could you please explain to us what your son is doing over there, King Thranduil?"
I'll probably be back soon. With more. Goodness, this is why I need to stay off the Internet.
